Behind The Cherry

Behind The Cherry

Hello my name is Megan* – I am the owner and creator of Bonfirecherry aka I am the one who threw the cherry onto the bonfire!

As you can tell from a person running a printing business, I am a creative person I have been since school then when i went to college I studied Art and Design and then graphic design. I learnt a lot printing skills from college but self taught myself other skills that I use to produce the items you see at Bonfirecherry.com
I am still learning now and that is why I love to be creative!
I admire a lot of artists and designers but the three I look up to the most for inspiration are Roy Lichtenstein, Jamie Hewlett and Jody Barton. I do like to visit exhibitions every now and then when I have the time, my favourite being a Roy Lichenstein one around my birthday a few years ago at the Tate modern.
I have an interest in Japanese anime and manga such as the series called One Piece that sometimes it ends up getting into my print work in some way (names for designs such as Yonko's Messenger, Robin's War, Carrot and Chopper as inspired by characters from the show) that I name the creator, Eiichiro Oda as another artist that I admire.
Alongside Japanese animation, since the first lockdown I have become a big player of Final Fantasy 14 online which has given me some inspiration for designs and names since.
The genre of films I love to watch anime (no surprise there), science fiction, super hero and comedies. World War 2 documentaries is always something I can't say no to, we need to learn from history.
Books I like to read in my spare time are Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo etc), manga and anything from JD Salinger.
When it comes to music, I like any genre of music from Avril Lavigne, Ninja Sex Party, Bjork to Jay-Z you should see my Spotify wrapped playlist every year.
Since 2018, I have been the co-host of the Bonfire Banter podcast with one of my best friends Dene Gibson, the podcast is about all things craft and business. You can find out more about the podcast here
*note. Name was previously Matthew, search "What if this small business changed owners", "Happy" and "A View From Behind The Cherry" for name and picture change etc
